A fierce battle for the Selebi Phikwe mayoral seat looms

A fierce battle for the Selebi Phikwe mayoral seat is looming, as three BDP councillors line up for the covered seat.

The current mayor, Leonard Mojuta, will face a challenge from his deputy, Molefhi Pilane and former mayor and fellow nominated councillor, Molosiwa Molosiwa. Both Pilane and Molosiwa, have confirmed their intentions to challenge Mojuta, while the incumbent has declined to discuss the race.

The two challengers say they is need for change of leadership in the town, given the decline in fortunes brought about by the closure of the BCL mine. The issue will have to be settled by a close-door party caucus before it taken to the full council floor. The BDP is firmly in control of the Phikwe council, with ten councillors to the opposition's six.
