Khama criticised for delaying the writ for the Tlokweng by-election

Tuesday, 21 March, 2017 - 07:45

Former parliamentary speaker, Margaret Nasha has also criticised President Ian Khama for the delay in issuing the writ of the parliamentary by-election in Tlokweng.

She claimed for the first time in the country’s history the writ has not been announced for close to four months. The Tlokweng parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Same Bathobakae of the UDC in November last year.

Nasha alleged that President Khama has delayed the writ because his ruling BDP is not prepared for the by-election.

She said there is a suspicion that the bye election may be slated for Easter holidays, to discourage public service workers from voting.
