BNF PUSHES FOR GREATER CITIZEN OWNERSHIP OF ECONOMY

The Botswana National Front is pushing for greater citizen ownership of Botswana’s economy, with its upcoming policy conference set to examine barriers to participation in higher-value sectors.

Addressing the media yesterday, BNF Vice President Moeti Mohwasa said the policy conference will also consider mineral beneficiation and decent employment, among others.

The conference, set for 9 to 11 October in Selebi-Phikwe, is expected to produce resolutions that will shape the party’s policy programme and proposals to the UDC.

Meanwhile, the BNF has reiterated that government positions should be based on merit and competence, not party membership.

Mohwasa says political affiliation alone should not qualify anyone for a government position, while acknowledging the BNF has no specific cadre-deployment policy.
