BOTSWANA TARGETS CHINA, U.S. DIAMOND MARKETS

Article By: KGOMOTSO KGOSHE Botswana is seeking to expand its diamond markets in China and the United States.

The country signed the Beijing Declaration on Natural Diamonds and Sustainable Development in Beijing on September 15, alongside Namibia, South Africa and the Shanghai Diamond Exchange.

Botswana’s Ambassador to China, Professor Lekoko Kenosi, represented the country.

The declaration seeks to strengthen value creation, skills development and access to Chinese consumers, while highlighting the economic contribution of natural diamonds.

Meanwhile, President Duma Boko told CNN yesterday that Botswana is also exploring opportunities to expand its diamond market in the United States, saying the future of the country’s diamonds remains bright.
