The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has confirmed that the e-mobility project launched under its portfolio last year is being prepared for transfer to the Ministry of Trade & Entrepreneurship.
Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee yesterday, PS Kgakgamalo Ketshajwang revealed that plans are currently underway to transfer the programme as part of governments intentions to invest in the export of green energy and its products. He also shared that the project has thus far costed 130 million pula, which includes the purchase of 89 vehicles – being 50 SUVS and 39 buses, capacity building as well as storage facilities.
Since its launch last year, the e-mobility project has been shrouded with controversy with many questioning transparency surrounding the extent of local involvement in the manufacture and assembling of the vehicles.
