The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has issued a stern warning to Borotsi voters, reminding them of the stricter penalties for electoral offenses implemented just before this weekend's Borotsi-Lepokolole council by-elections.
IEC Secretary Jefferson Siamisang emphasized the seriousness of adhering to voter laws, highlighting increased fines and potential imprisonment for violations.
The IEC filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal seeking to overturn a High Court ruling that granted the UDC the right to observe and monitor the voter registration process.
This move comes after Judge Gaopalelwe Ketlogetswe of the Francistown High Court reaffirmed the UDC's monitoring rights in a November 10th order, upholding an earlier ruling issued on October 31st.
UDC attorney Owen Nsala recently confirmed receiving the appeal documents.
