Botswana is stepping up efforts to diversify its mining sector as diamond sales continue to decline.
Speaking at the Future of Mining Summit this morning, Minerals and Energy Minister Bogolo Kenewendo announced the reopening of Tati Nickel Mine near Francistown, set to employ over 500 people and pump nearly 5 billion pula into the economy.
She also highlighted progress at the Kanye Manganese Project, which is expected to boost the electric vehicle battery market while creating local jobs.
Despite ongoing sector challenges, Kenewendo reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting new mineral projects.
