The Ministry of Basic Education and Child Welfare has warned teachers against using corporal punishment.
Speaking at a Kgotla meeting in Goodhope, Minister Nono Kgafela Mokoka said the Ministry is investigating a case where a student was reportedly left paralyzed after being beaten.
She warned that such actions will not be tolerated, and legislation is being considered to outlaw corporal punishment entirely.
The Minister also cautioned against requesting photocopying paper from students, saying it places undue financial strain on families.
