Botswana's opposition parties have joined forces, planning a large-scale demonstration to prevent potential manipulation of the upcoming general elections by the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) government. At a joint press conference, representatives from all opposition parties announced the formation of a coordinating structure led by their respective Secretary Generals.
Botswana National Front (BNF) Secretary General, Ketlhalefile Motshegwa, emphasized the urgency of their actions, citing ongoing scrutiny towards the country's electoral process. He declared the opposition's commitment to safeguarding democracy and national stability.
Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Secretary General Goretetse Kekgonegile pointed out the lack of progress from previous engagements with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). He said they plan to raise their concerns again during the upcoming All Parties Conference scheduled for tomorrow in Gaborone. The All Party conference will be convened by Minister for State President Kabo Morwaeng, where all political parties are expected to attend.
