PROSECUTORS HIGHLIGHT CHALLENGES AS VICTIMS WITHDRAW GENDER BASED VIOLENCE CASES

Article By: Diana Motsu

Prosecutors have expressed deep concerns over the rising number of gender-based violence (GBV) cases being withdrawn by victims at the last minute. Gabz FM has learned that prosecutors invest significant resources into building these cases, only for them to be dropped just before proceedings take place.

One prosecutor, who wished to remain anonymous, shared with Gabz FM News that they are already facing numerous challenges, including a shortage of magistrates and limited resources, which has resulted in a mounting backlog of cases.

The prosecutor further cited cyberbullying as another major factor contributing to the withdrawal of cases, with many victims being harassed and pressured online, making them feel compelled to retract their claims.
