STEAM ROLLOUT PUTS TEACHER READINESS UNDER SPOTLIGHT

Article By: Phenyo Babusi Botswana’s shift towards coding, robotics and artificial intelligence in schools is placing teacher preparedness and school infrastructure under pressure, as government begins a five-year National STEAM Project.

Speaking at the 5 year national STEAM project inauguration, Minister of Wealth, Child Welfare and Basic Education Nono Mokoka-Kgafela said technology alone will not transform education, warning that equipment is meaningless if teachers are not equipped to use it effectively.

She says the project targets 200 schools across all 10 regions by March 2027, with 26 schools are already undergoing implementation, while 65 have been audited.

Furthermore, Mokoka-Kgafela highlights that educator capacity training is scheduled to begin on October 19, alongside the rollout of coding and robotics.
