Botswana has recorded a notable drop in criminal cases and road accidents over the Easter holiday compared to the same period last year.
Botswana Police Service Spokesperson Near Bagali told Gabz FM News that from April 17th to 22nd, road accidents decreased by 17%, with fewer serious injuries reported.
Cases of violence, including Gender-Based Violence, also declined significantly. Offenses against persons dropped by over 50%, while GBV cases were down 47%.
Bagali credited the decline to increased community involvement and urged the public to continue resolving conflicts peacefully and cooperating with law enforcement.
Despite the progress, five fatal crashes claimed six lives, and 291 drivers were caught driving under the influence. Theft-related crimes saw a slight increase.
