UDC RETAINS KGALAGADI SOUTH CONSTITUENCY

The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has retained the Kgalagadi South constituency following a by election held over the weekend, with its candidate Tokyo Modise securing victory with 6,766 votes, ahead of Diana Kaartzee of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), who received 3,926 votes.


The Botswana Congress Party’s Tshephang Brooks followed with 946 votes, while Independent candidate Kealeboga Kapeko managed 116, and the Botswana Patriotic Front’s (BPF) Phenyo Sedimonyane secured 99 votes. A total of 46 ballots were spoilt.


Speaking to Gabz FM News following his victory, Modise said he is committed to advocating for the needs of his constituency, with education reforms forming a central part of his agenda.


Modise takes over from the late Dr Micus Chimbombi, the former MP for Kgalagadi South and Minister of Lands and Agriculture, who's passing earlier this year triggered the by election.
