The government has announced that the 1.5 billion pula compensation fund for retired Botswana Defence Force (BDF) soldiers will start being disbursed in July 2024.
Minister of Defence & Security Kagiso Mmusi, told Gabz FM News that his Ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Finance on procurement processes, ensuring there will be no delays as long as both ministries progress as planned. He noted that 10,000 ex-soldiers are currently registered for compensation.
Mmusi further alluded that a Military Veterans Unit has been established within the Ministry of Defence & Security to address the needs of ex-military members.
He pointed out that, the goal is to help retired army officers transition from active service to productive civilian life.
