Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) says it could face serious cash flow problems following the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak, which it says could disrupt beef exports to its Europe market.
Speaking at the FMD National Emergency Operations Centre yesterday, BMC Executive of Livestock Procurement Kenneth Makubate, said majority of the commission’s stock is meant for the EU market, therefore BMC may incur serious negative impact on their cash flows if the situation continues.
To date the UK, through the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, is one of the markets that have temporarily restricted the importation of fresh bovine meat processed on or after 30 December 2025 into Great Britain
