Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) has announced that load management will continue for the next seven days, with no assurance it will end on day seven, due to continued demand exceeding supply, caused by factors like reduced output from Morupule Power Stations, transmission failures, and lower electricity imports.
In a notice, BPC explained that to maintain grid stability and avoid blackouts, load management will be extended to additional areas today , including the greater Francistown region, Maun, and the villages in the North East region.
The corporation stipulated that it uses a rotational schedule to fairly distribute the impact, prioritizing essential services such as hospitals and security.
The public has been urged to reduce power usage during peak hours, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, to help ease the strain on the grid.
