Botswana's long-held aspirations to revitalize its dairy sector are set to face a crucial test in April with the arrival of a consignment of embryos from Brazil. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Agriculture Research and Development Institute (NARDI), aims to enhance dairy cow productivity through Assisted Reproduction Technologies (ART).
These embryos will be used for the first-ever embryo transfer in the country, scheduled for May, utilizing ART techniques. NARDI Director of Animal Production and Health Dr. Kethusegile Raphaka, highlighted the government's commitment to enhancing dairy productivity through ART. He expressed hope that the embryo transfer, if successful, will be a turning point for the sector.
