CHIEF JUSTICE SAYS THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF BRIBED JUDGES

Article By: Gilbert Manenye

Chief Justice Gaolapelwe Ketlogetswe has dismissed allegations that some judges are receiving bribes, saying the Law Society of Botswana (LSB) has failed to provide any names or evidence despite earlier suggestions of corruption within the judiciary.

Ketlogetswe said concerns about bribery were raised as far back as last year during the opening of the legal year. However, he said the judiciary currently has no information implicating any judge or group of judges in bribery, including allegations linked to fast tracking cases or influencing outcomes.

While dismissing the allegations, the Chief Justice said the judiciary remains open to receiving evidence and urged members of the public to report any suspected corruption involving judges to the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC).
