Botswana’s corporate sector is facing a surge in fraud cases, affecting both public and private institutions.
In an exclusive interview with GABZ FM NEWS, Group CEO at Loss Management Consultancy International, Nyasha Mareya said the most prevalent fraud types include procurement fraud, payroll manipulation, and cyber theft, often driven by weak internal controls rather than criminal intent.
Mareya emphasized the importance of balanced oversight systems to detect irregularities without fostering mistrust.
She also highlighted the role of corporate culture in either enabling or curbing misconduct and calls for stronger whistleblower protection, improved governance, and digitized audit trails to enhance accountability.
