Children are being increasingly exposed to adult content online, putting them at heightened risk of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse.
Speaking to Gabz FM News, medical doctor Thabang Dima expressed concern over the growing trend, stating that children are encountering explicit material at an age when they lack the emotional and cognitive maturity to process it appropriately.
Dima said many children are being exposed to adult content far too early in life, and they do not yet have the intellectual or emotional capacity to understand or cope with what they are seeing.
He also warned that online platforms are being exploited by predatory adults who actively seek out vulnerable youth. These individuals use digital spaces to groom and manipulate children, often without the knowledge of parents or guardians.
Dr Dima called for greater collaboration among child protection programs and stakeholders, emphasizing the need to build resilience among children and strengthen community efforts to ensure their safety online.
