GOVERNMENT EXPANDS NATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM TO TACKLE SCHOOL MAINTENANCE CHALLENGES

Article By: Rorisang Mogojwe

The Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education plans to expand the National Internship Programme to include graduates from Brigades, CITF, and Technical Colleges in a bid to address both youth unemployment and school maintenance challenges.

According to Minister Nono Kgafela-Mokoka, the expansion aims to empower young graduates, enhance skills development, and create employment opportunities.

The move comes as Botswana continues to grapple with high youth unemployment, with thousands of graduates struggling to secure jobs.

The Minister highlighted that interns will be deployed to provide maintenance support under Technical Officers, working alongside Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to improve upkeep of schools.
