A proposal to elevate bogosi to the same status as the government's three branches – executive, legislature, and judiciary – has been rejected. Kgosi Johane Rakumako, representing the Tswapong region, had tabled the motion in the Ntlo ya Dikgosi.
Rakumako expressed concern about the diminishing power of traditional leaders and the potential extinction of Setswana culture. He argued that separate arm status would empower traditional leaders and protect cultural heritage.
Minister Annah Mokgethi however rejected the proposal, citing overlap with existing branches. She said traditional leaders already interact and contribute to the executive, legislature, and judiciary, therefore making a separate arm unnecessary.
