GOVERNMENT’S HANDLING OF HIGH-PROFILE CASES.

Article By: Tebogo Mokoto

Government’s ability to prosecute high-profile white-collar crimes is once again under scrutiny following another major court defeat.

Speaking to Gabz FM News, legal expert Martin Dingake said the state often rushes cases to court without building strong evidence—blaming limited capacity, not incompetence.

This follows a High Court ruling ordering government to pay over P50 million to businessman Bakang Seretse and his companies, after failing to prove allegations linked to the National Petroleum Fund.

The court found the state had no right to keep assets lawfully acquired.

Legal expert Shathani Somolekae welcomed the judgment, saying the state lacked solid evidence from the beginning.

Somolekae called for better investigations to prevent costly legal defeats.
