Article By: Diana Motsu

Government has spent a total of P6 million on transportation, repa-triation, and funeral expenses for the 45 Batswana who died in the Mamatlakala bridge bus accident in Limpopo, South Africa, two months ago.

This was announced by Kweneng District Commissioner Tebogo Bagopi while addressing a full council meeting on Monday.

Bagopi noted that the government covered all costs, including mortuary services, transportation for family identifications, lodging, food, repatriation, and burial expenses.

She also thanked the Botswana Police Service, South African Police Service, and foreign affairs ministries for their cooperation in ensuring smooth processes.

The eight-year-old girl, the sole survivor of the bus tragedy, is recovering well and responding positively to psychological support.

This was revealed yesterday by Councilor Kabelo Selome of Bonewamang ward in Molepolole. Selome noted that the young girl remains in government custody and has yet to return to school, pending approval from the relevant authorities.
