Ministry of Health has issued a warning regarding a significant increase in Influenza-like Illnesses (ILIs) across the country, with some individuals testing positive for COVID-19.
Acting Executive Director of the Botswana Public Health Institute, Dr. Thebeyame Macheke, reported over 12,000 ILI cases and 40 confirmed COVID-19 infections in the past four weeks, including one COVID-related death.
He said while ILIs typically peak during winter months, the current surge coinciding with COVID-19 cases creates a potential for misdiagnosis and increased strain on healthcare facilities. He further urged the public to remain vigilant and seek medical attention if experiencing flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches.
