The Ministry of Health is taking steps to address the country’s midwife shortage.
Assistant Minister of Health Lawrence Ookeditse told Gabz FM News that plans are underway to expand midwifery training programs and offer scholarships to attract more students into the field.
Alongside increasing midwife numbers, the government aims to improve working conditions to retain existing professionals.
He added that efforts to strengthen maternal healthcare will include expanding antenatal services, boosting emergency obstetric care, and training more healthcare workers to better support expectant mothers.
