Persistent heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across Botswana, destroying homes and damaging infrastructure in several regions.
The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) has revealed that over 50 homesteads have been destroyed in Ghanzi and Dikar, with additional damage reported in Letlhakeng.
Authorities have dispatched a response team to assess the situation and provide assistance.
NDMO Public Relations Officer Tebogo Modiakgotla says the continued downpours are expected to cause further damage to infrastructure including roads and homes.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorological Services (DMS) reports that the Kgalagadi District has received the highest rainfall so far, exceeding 230mm, with Kokotsha recording 235mm.
Chief Technical Officer Didimalang Seikaneng attributes the downpours to moisture influx from the tropics, which has resulted in intense and prolonged rainfall.
With forecasts predicting continued rain into next week, officials urge the public to remain cautious and avoid flood-prone areas.
