The insufficient of shelters for survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) is causing concern in the country, with government currently supporting only three shelters.
Minister of Youth and Gender, Lesego Chombo, acknowledged this pressing issue in a recent committee of supply speech, stressing that these shelters are insufficient given the rising cases of violence.
She highlighted that part of the Ministry’s development budget of over 10 million Pula will be allocated to expanding shelter capacity, though current resources are struggling to meet demand.
The Minister also noted that limited resources and a shortage of skilled personnel are slowing efforts to support survivors and tackle the growing crisis effectively.
