Leader of Opposition Dithapelo Keorapetse, has urged government to prioritize vocational training, emphasizing its crucial role in addressing unemployment and fostering economic growth. Speaking in response to the 2024/25 Budget Speech in Parliament yesterday , Keorapetse highlighted that Botswana currently faces a significant shortage of skilled artisans, resulting in the reliance on foreign labor, particularly from neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe.
He stressed the importance of investing in vocational education to equip Batswana with the necessary skills and qualifications to meet the demands of various industries. Further alluding that by enhancing vocational training programs and increasing allowances for learners at vocational and technical colleges, the government can encourage more citizens to pursue careers in skilled trades and technical fields.
