LEGAL EXPERTS CITE CHALLENGES IN PROSECUTING FAMILY SEXUAL PREDATORS.

Article By: Phenyo Babusi

Prosecuting sexual predators within families in Botswana remains a significant challenge, as victims face stigma, fear, and pressure to remain silent.

According to a Legal expert from J. Morebodi Legal Consultancy, many cases go unreported due to family loyalty, financial dependence, and cultural taboos.

Speaking to Gabz FM News, Attorney Morebodi Jamba, explained that children, in particular, struggle to testify against family members, making it difficult to secure convictions.

He added that many families prefer to resolve these matters privately, fearing social shame and backlash, which allows perpetrators to continue their abuse without facing justice.

Jamba called on communities and authorities to work together to break the cycle of silence and ensure that survivors receive justice while holding perpetrators accountable.
