Tourism operators are raising alarm over the impact of Botswana’s local per diem rates on their businesses.
Speaking at the HATAB Conference in Maun, Minister of Environment and Tourism Wynter Mmolotsi acknowledged the concerns, saying a government survey found that some civil servants now negotiate lower rates or share rooms—cutting into tourism revenue.
He assured industry players that his ministry, along with the Ministry of State President, is working on a long-term solution to balance government cost-saving measures with the sustainability of the tourism sector.
