More than 400 malaria cases have been recorded in parts of Botswana as persistent rains continue to create favourable breeding conditions for mosquitoes.

Speaking to GABZ FM News, health officials in Shakawe and Ghanzi said the number of reported cases continues to rise. They noted that priority for hospital admission is being given to patients with severe malaria, particularly children, pregnant women and the elderly, in an effort to reduce congestion at health facilities.

Meanwhile, Okavango District Council Chairperson, Gaopalelwe Ronald has commended President Duma Boko for calling for the donation of 40,000 mosquito zappers to the district as part of efforts to control the spread of malaria.
