MASISI TO ADVANCE TALKS WITH ZIMBABWE FOR THE USE OF OMANG AS A TRAVEL DOCUMENT

Article By: Tebogo Mokoto

HB Antwerp says the recent negative developments within the diamond processing firm will not deter them from their intention to transform the natural resources value chain in Botswana.

HB Antwerp has recently seen boardroom brawls which did not place the company's integrity in a positive light especially that it is still settling in Botswana's diamond value chain.

Lucara Diamond Company abruptly terminated a diamond sales agreement over a breach of a financial agreement by HB Antwerp last week. However, president Masisi said the government would intervene.

The government has a 24% stake deal in principle with HB Antwerp through which it will supply rough diamonds to the Belgian company through the Okavango Diamond Company.

HB Botswana communications manager, Omogolo Mathumo told Gabzfm news that the reinstatement of cofounder, Oded Mansori would be impactful in ensuring that the company achieves its mandate.

President Masisi says he will engage his Zimbabwean counterpart, Emerson Mnangagwa to implement the use of Omang as a travel document between Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Masisi made the statement when addressing a kgotla meeting in Masunga village yesterday.

He said contrary to the believe that such an arrangement will encourage uncontrolled mass migration of Zimbabweans to Botswana, stringent immigration protocols would be used to mitigate such possibilities.
