MATSHELAGABEDI MAN DIES AFTER ALLEGED SELF-IMMOLATION

Police in Matsiloje are investigating a suspected suicide after a 23-year-old man from Matshelagabedi allegedly set himself alight on Monday night.

According to Station Commander Oteng Ngada, the man is believed to have poured petrol on himself before igniting the fire, reportedly after struggling with personal and social problems.

Officers responding to the scene found neighbours trying to extinguish the flames. The victim was rushed to Francistown Academic Hospital, where he later died from severe burn injuries.

Police say investigations revealed the petrol had earlier been bought to treat a donkey skin disease, before the deceased allegedly requested it, claiming he wanted to test a generator.

Investigations are ongoing.
