MAUN TO BE DECLARED A TOWNSHIP.

Article By: Solomon Tjinyeka

The Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Ketlhalefile  Motshegwa, has revealed that his ministry is working on a plan to upgrade several major villages across the country to township status including Maun.

Speaking during a public consultation on the Bogosi Act and Customary Act of 2013 held in Maun, Motshegwa announced that the government has identified Palapye, Mogoditshane, Tlokweng, and Maun as the first four villages to be declared townships in the near future.

He noted that community consultations will soon commence, involving residents, dikgosi, and the business community to ensure that the transition is inclusive and well-understood.

He added that becoming a township brings significant changes in terms of governance, infrastructure development, and long-term planning.

He urged residents of Maun to begin preparing for that  as vision and expectations of the village will shift.
