Members of Parliment Calls for New Tourism Fees to Be Suspended

Article By: DIANA MOTSU

The introduction of higher tourism fees has drawn concern from the Member of Parliament for Chobe constituency, Oscar Mapulanga, who warns the move could slow recovery in a sector still rebuilding after recent economic challenges.

The MP told Gabz FM News that the increases were implemented without adequate consultation, creating uncertainty for operators who rely on long term planning.

He says many businesses are still recovering from economic shocks and that pre booked clients make it hard to cover the higher fees, calling on government to suspend the increases and consult with operators on a phased approach to protect jobs.

The hike follows a presidential directive and will take effect in April 2026.
