The Ministry of Health has confirmed cases of malaria in several parts of the country that were previously unaffected, including Ghanzi, Serowe, Francistown, Gaborone, and Mahalapye.
The Okavango, Ngami, Ghanzi, Chobe, Tutume, and Boteti districts have been particularly impacted, with ongoing outbreaks of the waterborne disease.
In a statement, the Ministry explained that the sharp rise in malaria cases is linked to the recent rains, which have created favorable breeding grounds for Anopheles mosquitoes.
Malaria symptoms include fever, headache, chills, sweating, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. If not diagnosed and treated promptly, the disease can lead to severe health complications and even death.
The public is urged to take necessary precautions, such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using insecticides and mosquito repellents.
