Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Major General Retired Pius Mokgware, is set to present the Employment and Labour Relations Bill of 2025 to Parliament.
The Bill seeks to repeal and combine key labour laws, including the Employment Act, to better protect workers’ rights. It proposes tougher penalties against forced labour, child labour, and workplace harassment, while promoting fair wages, equal treatment, and stronger union rights.
The Bill also aims to align Botswana’s labour laws with international standards through the creation of a National Social Dialogue Structure and an independent dispute resolution body.
