Authorities in the North East District have approached the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education with a proposal to temporarily close schools in flood-affected areas to safeguard learners.
North East District Council chairperson Mbaakanyi Smarts told Gabz FM News the move follows days of persistent heavy rainfall across the region.
Since January 18, torrential rains have caused rivers and streams to overflow, resulting in widespread flooding and raising safety concerns for schoolchildren in the district.
