The Okavango District Council has received P20 million to pay Ipelegeng workers who have gone four months without wages. Vice Chairperson of the Okavango District Council, Brian Samoka, told Gabz FM News that the funds will cover most of the outstanding payments.

He said the majority of Ipelegeng workers, including those near the Gumare headquarters and in remote areas of the district are expected to start receiving their wages by the end of the week.

The development follows a boycott by councilors, who walked out of a scheduled council session in protest over the four-month delay.

A total of P21 million is owed to Ipelegeng workers in the district. Residents say the months long delay in payments has severely affected service delivery in the poverty stricken Okavango District, where the Ipelegeng programme is not just a source of income but a vital lifeline for many struggling households.
