Botswana has spent P419 million since 2011 to recruit Cuban healthcare workers to address specialist shortages in Botswana.
Assistant Minister of Health Lawrence Ookeditse has revealed that Cuban specialists earn between P41, 550 and P 52,000 monthly, with additional benefits like free housing and transport.
While the agreement runs until 2029, the government aims to reduce reliance on foreign workers by training local specialists and exploring public-private partnerships.
