President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko says Constitutional Court Strengthens Law, Not Presidential Power

Article By: DIANA MOTSU

President Boko has addressed public concerns over the proposed Constitutional Court, stressing it does not give him the power to change the Constitution.

Speaking to members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi, he said his personal views on issues like capital punishment cannot override the law. He dismissed claims that the court could introduce same sex marriage or abolish the death penalty as misinformation.

President Boko said constitutional changes require a formal process, including a referendum, and clarified that the Constitutional Court interprets the law rather than amends it, reinforcing democracy rather than presidential power.
