Office of the Ombudsman is said to be struggling to meet growing demand for its services due to financial and staffing constraints, despite an expanded mandate that includes human rights protection.
Speaking at a press briefing, Ombudsman Advocate Stephen Tiroyakgosi said more than 20 additional positions have been authorized but remain unfilled due to a lack of funding.
Tiroyakgosi said the office has received 5,400 cases over the past five years, of which 2,275 have been resolved.
He added that investigators are also expected to conduct public education activities, leaving them with less time to handle complaints and contributing to delays in investigations.
