The Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education has instructed school heads in the North East Region to stop engaging temporary staff who have served beyond one year.
According to a savingram issued yesterday , the directive cites compliance with the Public Service Act, stating that contracts for temporary teaching and non teaching staff cannot be extended beyond one year. The statement also highlights that a new cohort of temporary staff will be recruited to replace those whose tenure has exceeded this limit, but recruitment is currently on hold until further notice.
The Ministry also advised that no temporary staff should be engaged unless they have been officially issued a letter confirming their appointment.
