Article By: Tumelo Mouwane The Umbrella for Democratic Change, UDC could take the Independent Electoral Commission IEC to court in order to compel the commission to allow party representatives to observe the voter registration exercise.
UDC president Duma Boko said this when addressing a press yesterday.
He said the call to have party representatives oversee voter registration is necessitated by incidents which occurred during the 2018 registration period where IEC clerks registered voters beyond stipulated registration times.
Boko said failure by the IEC to acknowledge a letter he wrote on behalf of the UDC three weeks ago is a complete sign of lack of professionalism.
In the letter, the UDC expresses demand for the voter registration period to be transparent by means of intensified monitoring, including access to IEC digital databases in a bid to avoid alterations to the voters roll.
IEC spokesperson Osupile Maroba recently told Gabzfm news that the IEC has received the letter but was restrained to divulge any further information in relation to the document.
