Article By: Tebogo Mokoto The Botswana Federation of Trade Unions (BFTU) has added its voice to the growing calls for the government to address the persistent issues plaguing the proble-matic Government Accounting & Budgeting System (GABS).
Speaking to Gabz FM News, BFTU Secretary General Tshepiso Mbereki urged the government to swiftly resolve the system failures to prevent further financial losses due to delayed payments.
Mbereki highlighted the economic hardships faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individual service providers who do business with the government, emphasizing that the ongoing problems with GABS severely impact their cash flow. The BFTU joins numerous service providers in demanding that the government address the system's operational failures.
Minister of Finance Peggy Serame, in November acknowledged these issues, and indicated that her Ministry in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, Knowledge and Technology are working around the clock to normalise the situation and find a permanent solution.
