Water supply has been restored to Bodungwane after months without access, with residents confirming it resumed at around 9:40pm on Thursday.

This follows months without water and other essential services for more than 300 Bodungwane residents in Kgatleng, who have been appealing for urgent intervention after being ordered to vacate the settlement from April 29, 2026, following a land dispute involving the Kgatleng Land Board and a private family.

According to Bodungwane residents, a stable water supply would allow them to grow vegetables such as spinach, rape and morogo for supply to schools, while they also want the Bodungwane-Artesia road reopened, saying overgrown vegetation has made the route hazardous and increased the risk of accidents.

Ikageng Coordinator Lucia Sello says at least 22 residents will be employed under the programme once new roles are allocated, although skills mismatches remain a challenge after previous projects ended.

Meanwhile, Legal Representative Seth Ndzinge-Makhamisa says the High Court matter involving the residents has been postponed to August 26, 2026. He says the residents are seeking to protect their rights as they face eviction from their ancestral land, adding that the restoration of water is an important interim relief while the case continues.

Kgatleng District Council had not commented by the time of broadcast.
