Residents in some of Ngamiland’s most remote communities are facing growing challenges accessing emergency healthcare due to a shortage of ambulances.

The Botswana Nurses Union says the shortage is affecting areas such as Bojanala Ward and Khwai, where patients often depend on mobile clinics and emergency transport to reach health facilities.

Speaking during a consultation meeting, BONU representative Rankgomo Mmabotswana warned that the situation is particularly dangerous for critically ill patients and pregnant women who require urgent medical attention.

She said the shortage is also placing additional strain on healthcare workers serving remote settlements in the Okavango Delta.
