The Ministry of Lands and Agriculture has issued an alert regarding an outbreak of the African Migratory Locust, in several districts across the country. The affected areas include Boteti, Chobe, and Tutume (Gweta) districts. Additionally, Chobe district is facing not only the African Migratory Locust outbreak but also traces of the Red Locust.
The outbreak follows recent heavy rains, which created favorable breeding conditions for these pests. Locusts are known for their destructive impact on pastures and cereal crops like maize, millet, and sorghum.
Farmers are urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings to the nearest agricultural office. The Ministry highlighted that it is working around the clock to control the outbreak and protect grazing lands.
