Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) candidate Mpho Balopi has promised to review the party's constitution and the Bulela Ditswe process if elected to lead the party during the party national congress.
Speaking during media briefing earlier today, Balopi expressed concerns that the current structure gives the president more powers than party members, and he aims to rectify that by ensuring a more balanced system.
Balopi further highlighted that if elected party president, the BDP will seek forgiveness from those who feel wronged by the party, including the BaGamNgwato tribe in Serowe, who, he said, were once denied the use of their Kgotla.
Balopi expressed confidence that the Botswana Democratic Party will be in power by 2029, emphasizing his commitment to reform and unity within the party.
The BDP's congress is scheduled for May 10, where Balopi will face off against former Vice President and current party chairman Slumber Tsogwane, former Cabinet Minister Nonofo Molefhe, former BDP Executive Secretary Ame Makoba, and medical doctor Dr. Maxwell Ntlhato. Former Ambassador Dorcas Makgato has since withdrawn from the race, announcing her intention to run for the party chairmanship instead.
